Responsible for proactively and strategically developing, coordinating and directing company-wide safety compliance programs, systems and initiatives to include the following:
safety training, incident investigation/follow-up, incident prevention programs,

safety awareness programs, workers compensation claims management, and minimizing property loss exposure.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and manage safety compliance programs and procedures including but not limited to the following:
hazard communication, lockout/tagout, bloodborne pathogens, hearing conservation, industrial hygiene, confined space, laboratory safety, forklift

safety, first aid/CPR, electrical safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protection and emergency planning.

Manage all activities related to workers compensation, including claims management, interfacing with insurance carrier to support timely progression of claims, injury-related litigation management, employee communication and follow-up, incident investigations

to correct safety hazards, tracking of incident and injury data to identify trends and administering modified duty and employee return-to-work program.

Manage employee medical surveillance program including scope, scheduling and liaison with medical providers.

Conduct risk assessments at the task, job and process levels.

Maintaining OSHA recordkeeping and other regulated filing requirements, including the OSHA 300 log.


Support interaction with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and risk/loss control issues with property insurance carrier. Support audit activities.

Coordinate and manage activities of outside consultants that may be required to ensure safety compliance.


Input, track and report safety data, statistics and key performance indicators.

Serve as Chair for safety committee meetings, with a goal of implementing countermeasures and improving overall safety of the facility.

Assist with injury and incident investigation.

Document, track, and report any and all uncontrolled hazards, injuries, and near misses.

Develop and manage safety training initiatives which correlate with related programs and procedures.

Serve as safety pillar leader by presenting and participating in safety-related meetings and activities.

Facilitate corrective action pertaining uncontrolled hazards, injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.

Assure that work practices and facility design are compliant with codes, standards and applicable regulations. Identify and promote best management practices.

Assist in evaluating and classifying active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). Identify appropriate containment devices, handling procedures, chemical hygiene and personal protective equipment.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be comfortable in a role that includes establishing and writing safe job, miscellaneous safety, and environmental health procedures.

Must be willing to share knowledge by training others, as well as use passion to drive a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Adequate knowledge of local, state and federal health and safety regulations and their impact on operations.

Experience managing Workers Compensation claims, including reporting, claims management, and Return-to-Work processes.

Knowledge in the fundamentals of fire protection.

Knowledge of industrial hygiene.

Knowledge of machine and chemical process safety requirements.

Knowledge of contractor, site expansion, and construction safety requirements.

Proficient knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Excellent presentation and training skills.

Excellent communication skillsboth technical writing and verbal.

Skill in organization, planning and follow through.

Ability to prioritize among multiple challenges.

Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence.

Ability to maintain confidential information.

Acceptable MVR and valid Colorado Drivers License required.


Education & Experience

Bachelors degree in safety sciences including environmental science, safety, industrial hygiene or related scientific discipline.

Two or more years experience in a safety role. Some experience in a manufacturing environment highly preferred; experience in a cGMP environment desirable.

Working Conditions

Working conditions include an office environment, cGMP manufacturing/ warehouse and laboratory environment.
