Levi's story
Levi is a four year old retriever mix with a sensitive soul and a sordid past. This special boy is medium sized, weighing in at 56 pounds. He has a short, black coat and adorable ears. Not to mention his tiny nub tail that loves to buzz! Once Levi is bonded to his people, he loves them unconditionally and with his whole heart. Levi is an expressive and gentle dog: carrying his oversized stuffy toys around is his ultimate show of excitement and affection. Sadly, Levi went through some unfortunate life circumstances that make it very difficult for him to be around new people, particularly as they enter the home. He is also uncomfortable and nervous in new environments. Levi has gone through plenty of positive reinforcement based training in our foster program and has made significant progress, though his boundaries are still very important: right now he is not permitted to greet strangers inside or outside of the home without a carefully planned introduction.
Levi is looking for an adult-only forever home where foot-traffic is limited: a calm, quiet environment is Levi's favorite! Levi gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats after he settles into a home and gets to know everyone. Levi is perfectly house and crate trained. He also knows many cues which he loves to perform for TREATS! Smart, eager to please, and very food motivated: Levi loves to learn new tricks and habits. His forever home must match his enthusiasm for training and learning, and continue this work alongside a professional. Levi is not a dog that can go out to public events or crowded places. He prefers the quiet life at home and is on Prozac, an affordable daily medication, for his anxiety that should be continued in his adoptive home.
When stressed, Levi has been known to have minor flare ups of a skin condition involving a bit of hair loss called demodex. This has been managed easily with regular vet checks ups and occasionally, medication.
